Who We Are : Incardination
Incardination and excardination of clergy from one jurisdiction to another is a very serious matter and is not to be taken lightly. The UACC values the bond between clergy and bishop and will work hard to maintain that bond for clergy within and without the UACC. That being said, there are many circumstances that may predicate the need for excardination from one's jurisdiction. In such cases the Bishops of the UACC work closely with each clergy person and Bishop to find what is best for each party. In some cases a clergy person desiring incardination into the UACC may be directed to an Intercommunion Partner of the UACC or jurisdiction more suitable to their needs. Candidates for incardination, whether deacon, priest or bishop, must come from an existing or now defunct organization that posses or possessed valid Apostolic Succession. The UACC also welcomes candidates from Churches not in Apostolic Succession on a case-by-case basis. The UACC as a Church will not accept anyone as a candidate for Incardination who has been ordained for less than one year. Exception to this would be in extreme circumstance. (e.g., Church dissolution, radical change in Church policy, persecution and/or fear for one’s spiritual well being.) These extreme cases will be put before the College of Bishops for their discernment on a case-by-case basis. The United American Catholic Church welcomes you to dialogue with us and explore your possibilities. For assistance or additional information, please contact Archbishop Anthony Hash. |
